Increasingly, I have sensed and appreciated the connection between the mind, body, and soul and the reciprocal coexistence between animate and inanimate species. Recently, when Nneka shared her definition of radical kinship in her session on the said topic, before my brain could process the words and message, I became aware of a tingling sensation flowing through my body to the surface of my skin–tickled nerve endings. I went into the session with openness and a sense of trust, though unaware of the specifics about what to expect. The experience brought a heightened awareness of my deepening slow breathing, my heart’s rhythmic thump, and assuaged nerves. I left feeling a lightness of being, more deeply connected, fully appreciated, and abundantly grateful.

The Radical Kinship session gave me permission to slow down and actually listen to my body, not just in passing, but in a deep, intentional way. It helped me name what I was feeling out loud, without judgment. Since then, I’ve been more present in the messy moments, checking in with myself when emotions run high, pausing before reacting. It reminded me that mutual, honest relationships start with truth-telling, even when it’s scary, and that radical connection begins with being brave enough to be seen.
